The Wilds’ version of a dinner and a show! Enjoy an exclusive and revitalized Sunset Safari to experience the Wilds from a new perspective. The Sunset Safaris are great for romantic dates with the special someone or a relaxing and entertaining evening with friends. The experience begins with a buffet dinner on a private patio that overlooks the Wilds’ picturesque landscape. The charismatic and informative guides will be available during the dinner as well as the tour, making the evening as memorable as possible. Following the meal, the group boards a safari vehicle to get a closer look at the animals roaming in open-range habitats. The sunset safari includes a behind-the scenes look at the facilities and an opportunity to meet the Wilds’ animal management experts. The tour concludes as the sunset falls behind the expansive landscape, creating a breath-taking view that is unique to any other place in central Ohio.

23rd Annual Farm City Day –NEW LOCATION!

New Location!!! The theme this year is Pumpkins, Gourds, and Squash! Oh My! The event is open to the public and admission is FREE! Have fun while learning more about the importance of agriculture in our local economy. There will be entertainment provided by the Muskingum Valley Music Makers, story time provided by the Muskingum County Library, a scavenger hunt for prizes, food samples, free popcorn, make-it, take-it crafts, petting zoo, VIP pumpkin carving contest, hay bale demonstrations, Gus the Squash Carver, barrel train rides, great booths and displays, a guessing contest and there is special pricing for McDonald’s Corn Maze – $3 per person. Farm City Day is organized by Muskingum County OSU Extension, Muskingum County Farm Bureau, Muskingum County Master Gardeners, Guernsey-Muskingum Electric Cooperative, Muskingum County Soil and Water, USDA, McDonald’s Greenhouse and Corn Maze, the Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau. The event is sponsored by Muskingum County Pomona Grange, Shirer Brothers Meats, Muskingum County Community Foundation, Muskingum County Dairy Promoters, Farm Credit Mid-America, American Pride, Muskingum Valley Music Makers, and North Valley Bank.

The corn maze and activities run through Oct 31 Saturdays 10:00am-7pm, Sundays noon-6pm Thursdays in October 4-7pm Fridays in October 9am-noon & 4-7pm, other times by appointment.

This year, McDonald’s Greenhouse owner James (“Old”) McDonald cut his corn maze design in the shape of Lady Liberty with the words “God Bless America!” Every year, Old McDonald sees families make their annual trek to the farm. They gather up the grandparents and cameras each fall to get a hayride, pumpkins, mums and fresh apple cider. A favorite attraction, the farm offers pick-your-own pumpkins. “What better way to spend a crisp, autumn afternoon, than with your family out in the fresh air?” adds Old McDonald. “In addition to our other activities, we also have a 48×80 barn full of agricultural exhibits ready to host your events out of the weather. This year, the family is adding a Jumping Pillow, Baby Chicks, Mighty Diggers, tether balls and disc golf. They are expanding outreach to a broader age group by offering activities that many youth can participate at once, for field trips and civic groups. For $6.00 per person (2 & under are free), one can defeat the five-acre corn maze, pet baby farm animals, hold a fluffy chick, take a hayride, jump on the Jumping Pillow, play in a giant shelled corn box and walk through the peaceful Enchanted Forest to explore the teepee.

Constitution Day is celebrated each year on September 17. In celebration of Constitution Day Week Ohio University, along with the Muskingum County Bar Association, Muskingum County History, Muskingum Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution and the Zanesville Campus Cultural Committee, is hosting “Constitutional Politics in the US” featuring Ohio Humanities Council speaker, Michael Les Benedict. Benedict, says “Constitutional issues are really decided by We, The People, not the courts.” During his presentation he will explain how constitutional politics have decided the great issues of American constitutional history right up to the present, calling on Americans to fulfill their great constitutional responsibility knowingly and intelligently. Muskingum Valley Park Society’s Passport Program

June 3rd to Oct 29th

The Passport Program’s purpose is to promote the Parks and provide education, exploration and fitness.  It is set up like a regular passport with option of your picture and personal information as well as individual Park pages where the participant can place a stamp.  Each Park page will have a description of the Park, directions to the Park and questions for the participant to answer.  In order to get the right answer, the person has to attend each Park and find a lock box that has the answer and a stamp to put in their Passport.  The Passport will have information on how to register your booklet and how to find the lock boxes.  At the end of the timeline, the Park Society will have an awards ceremony for those who have successfully completed their Passport booklets and give out incentives.

The Passport booklets are available at the Muskingum County main library & 2 area branches (Duncan Falls & New Concord), Boy Scouts, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce and the Park District office.

So come join in the fun at your area county parks.
